Professional Year Program Information Technology

A Department of Home Affairs program called the ACS (IT) Professional Year is intended for foreign graduates who have earned an Australian IT degree. The ACS PY program, created by the Australian Computer Society, offers IT graduates a supervised route from college to employment in Australia.

This course was created in order to address Australia’s shortage of trained professionals and boost the number of overseas students who can find employment by expanding their knowledge and skill set and offering them the chance to participate in field training.

The course lasts 44 weeks, with 12 weeks of internship and 32 weeks of coursework.

The ability to earn five (5) more points on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection’s (DIBP) “points test” while applying for a Skilled Independent (subclass 189) visa is one of the main advantages of finishing a Professional Year Program.

Before applying for student visa in Australia, must have:

  • a valid passport for the duration of your study in Australia
  • offer letter from the selected university/institution
  • evidence of access to sufficient funds*
  • evidence of Overseas Student Health Cover
  • all other relevant documents listed on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection visa checklists

English Entry Requirement

Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) score 58 (no communicative skill score less than 50) or IELTS score 6.5 overall (no score below 6.0 in each of the component) *

Pathway to Australian Permanent Residency

These professions are often included in the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and Combined List of Eligible Skilled Occupations due to the growing need for IT graduates and similar to other information technology-related fields.

As previously stated, when a PY graduate applies for a Skilled Independent (subclass 189) visa, they are able to get five (5) additional points on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection’s (DIBP) “points test.”
